"Sophia" is a reference to the Gnostics. The album expresses a cathartic process both on a personal and a mythical level through four tracks. From suffering, imprisonment, doom and despair to relief and deliverance. It's about turning deep trauma into a strength, freeing oneself from the grip of something or someone.

“ An achingly beautiful cover perfectly depicts this collection of drone, folk, doom, broken electronics and black metal vocals. Feeling like it was recorded in a cave in the Himalayas during a severe snowstorm, it will be the perfect soundtrack for winter, especially the title track which sounds like a eulogy for all of those whose bodies are still up on Mount Everest. Evocative and striking.”

"Brittany, France noise agitator, Eijra Woon, covers a lot of ground on his latest LP, Sophia.

Pitting lush acoustic arrangements against blistering black metal assaults, think Alcest and Wolves In The Throne Room getting in a room together and jamming at half speed. In fact, it’s quite a surprise that no one else has tried something similar, however Eijra Woon nails it.

While black metal can sometimes seems over-bloated, Sophia doesn’t outstay its welcome. At four tracks clocking in at under 25 minutes, it’s a wonderful appetiser that showcases hard-nosed aggression and warm tender acoustic passages in equal measure, and while some may believe the two sound worlds shouldn’t coexist, with Sophia Eijra Woon blows that theory out of the water."

"Yes, this is very challenging music that reminds this writer of the likes of Cromagnon and Throbbing Gristle where musicality plays second fiddle to raw emotion and untempered sensation. It’s where Black Metal and Folk mix in a wholly unprecedented fashion, where aggression and gentleness combine to form some kind of amorphous new form never seen before. It’s danger and safety at the same time. It is confusing and yet makes complete sense.

It is musical doublethink. And it’s very, very special."
